Norwegian Prime Minister is against Prohibiting Hijab in Schools
The Norwegian Prime Minister is against prohibiting hijab in schools since it is considered to be part of the freedom of any individual to choose their own dress code. The leader of the Socialist Party however has voiced her opinion that hijab should be prohibited in schools for younger children.
The issue of hijab is still active in Norway, with new developments each day, as is the case in all European countries. While hijab is viewed by Muslims as a religious duty, it is viewed by politicians and the media as a violation of women’s rights, and by others as a symbol of a politically oriented movement supported by Islamists. It is not surprising that the west views hijab in this light, but what is strange is the fact that this view is imported from some Muslim countries that have painted hijab with sectarian colors. The Norwegian Prime Minister has voiced his disapproval of prohibiting hijab in schools stating that Norway has a democracy and it must accept the right of individuals to dress as they please. This stance comes after a statement issued by the leader of the Socialist Party, who expressed her support of prohibiting hijab in schools for younger children, on the basis that hijab is forced onto children because children at that age do not take decisions for themselves.
