The Assembly of Imams and Spiritual Guiders in Spain Holds its First General Assembly
The first General Assembly of the Assembly of Imams and Spiritual Guiders in Spain was held on Sunday January 31st 2010 in the headquarters of the Assembly in Palencia and was attended by a large numbers of Imams who came from various Spanish regions and cities. This step was taken after the official endorsement of the Assembly as the representative of Imams last May.
After opening the meeting with recitals from the Holy Qur’an, Sheikh Ahmed Bukhary the Imam of the Resala Mosque at Zaragoza presented a speech on behalf of the Imams, in which he portrayed the role of the Imam and the verbal message in Spanish society. This was followed by a speech given by the Head of the Islamic League for Dialogue and Tolerance in Spain (LIDCO) Dr. Ali Busaid who welcomed all attendees and stressed on the high expectations that Islamic institutions and Muslims in general had of the active role of the Imams in light of the changes in the Spanish arena.
Sheikh Alaa Mohamed Said then presented the achievements of the previous phase in establishing and introducing the Assembly, and how this resulted in having a large number of Imams enrolling. According to Sheikh Alaa this led to the necessity of holding a General Assembly to choose new leadership for the Assembly.
Consequently elections were held to vote for the Consultative Council and Head of Assembly. Dr.Alaa Mohamed Said was elected as the Head of the Assembly of Imams and Spiritual Guiders in Spain, and the following Imams were elected as members of the Consultative Council:
